Stepless by Guldmann
increases accessibility in
Wisdome Stockholm
In a groundbreaking collaboration with Tekniska, the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm, Stepless by Guldmann proudly introduces its latest innovation: customised platform lifts designed to improve accessibility in the impressive Wisdome Stockholm.
The Wisdome project is based on a collaboration between Sweden’s five leading science centres - Malmö Museum, Universeum in Gothenburg, Curiosum in Umeå, Tekniska Museet in Stockholm and Visualisation Centre C in Norrköping - with Visualisation Centre C at the centre of the project. The project also includes the involvement of more than ten universities and research facilities working with research, technology, application and didactics.
In the courtyard of the Tekniska you’ll find Wisdome Stockholm. On the outside, a spectacular building that challenges the boundaries of technological possibilities; on the inside, world-leading technology that promises visitors a fully immersive experience in science and technology.
The centre of attraction (the cornerstone) is the spherical wooden dome, where visitors will be completely captivated by 360° 3D projections that surround them from all directions. World-leading visualisation technology is helping to create entirely new ways of experiencing science.
With the groundbreaking Stepless platform lifts installed in the dome, the journey to knowledge becomes more inclusive for everyone, especially wheelchair users.
The two custom-built lifting platforms have a unique feature where the platform can be set at different adjustable angles. This innovation ensures that people with different mobility needs, including wheelchair users, can comfortably sit back and enjoy the Wisdome performance without any hindrance. The inauguration ceremony, performed by King Carl XVI Gustav, Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand and Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang, marked the successful implementation of the solution. Stepless’ platform lifts received much attention and praise for their role in enabling access to Wisdome.
The Wisdome Stockholm, which opened its doors to the public in December 2023, is a marvel of architectural creativity. Designed by Elding Oscarson, the structure challenges material properties and construction norms. A captivating visual spectacle, the 48-metre-long wooden dome epitomises the fusion of technology and sustainability. By seamlessly integrating accessibility into Wisdome Stockholm, Stepless by Guldmann ensures that everyone, regardless of mobility challenges, can participate in the captivating journey through the world of science and technology.
